Lesson 2 - How to Choose your Domain Name and Buy Web
Hosting
In this lesson we will use the keywords that we found using Wordtracker
in Lesson 1 to choose a domain name.
A domain name is the address on the Internet for your web site (also
called a URL - or "earl"). For example: the web site
www.bluehost.com has a domain name of bluehost.com. You will look
for a domain name that will become your web site address.
A web hosting service is where you will store the web pages that you
will create so that they can be seen over the Internet 24 hours a day
and seven days a week. When you have created your web pages we
will "upload" them to your web host where they will be available for
people to visit.
Often, a domain name will be registered with one company at an annual
fee and web hosting will be obtained from another for another
fee. I use Blue
Host because they offer a free domain name registration when you
sign up for web hosting for 12 or 24 months (saves you $10 to $20 right
off the bat).
Plus, in addition to free domain name registration, Blue
Host is among the most inexpensive web hosts
available. Blue
Host also allows you to host unlimited web sites (with
different domain names) on this one account - that is going to save you
a bundle of money when you build more and more money making websites.
So, now that you are armed with your list of keywords from Lesson 1
you will have to pick one to build your website around. I am
going to start showing you one of my websites so we can use it as a
case study for picking a domain name and building a website around it.
Visit my website Best Scooters Mileage now - you'll notice it is
not fancy or high tech but it still makes money every single day.
The domain name for this website is bestscootersmileage.com (yes,
just like you would type into a web brower without the www in front).
Let me explain why I picked this domain name. I found in my Wordtracker
research that people were typing "best scooters mileage" into the
search engines every day and that it had a high KEI (remember we talked
about that in Lesson 1). Because this was the exact phrase they
used to type into the search engine, that is the phrase I wanted to use
for my domain name. That will give me instant visitors
because a search engine like Google will serve up a website in the
search results based on how well the title and the domain name matches
what is typed into the search box. This instantly puts my website
in front of other scooter related websites not using this particular
term in their text. You could say that I am targeting that
particular term.
Now that I have picked my keyword phrase that I'm going to target "best
scooters mileage", I have to find out if I can get that as my domain
name.
This is where you will take your chosen keyword phrase and go to Blue
Host in order to search for your domain name. Do that now -
go to Blue
Host and click Sign Up Now.
In the box on the left of the screen titled New Clients, type in a
domain name you might like to have (based on your chosen keyword
phrases). Be warned, you may have to try a number of different
variations or even choose several different keyword phrases before you
manage to get the one you want but don't give up, just keep trying.
Select the privacy option to keep your information private.
Some tips on domain name searches:
- if you cannot find the EXACT keyword phrase as
your domain name, try to shorten or lengthen it (for example "best
scooters mileage" keywords could create domain names
"thebestscootermileage.com" or "getbestscootersmileage.com")
- stay away from hyphens and underscores in your
domain names unless there is no other option available to you
- try to get the .com version of the domain name
(you may be asked if you want to get .net or .org and so on but try to
get the .com)
- try to keep the domain name under 15 to 20
characters in length
Once you have been successful in getting a domain name
that is available, continue with the sign up for a Blue
Host account.
Congratulations!
You are now the proud owner of a domain name and are ready to
